Mebendazole

A

MOA - binds to beta-tubular and inhibits microtubule polymerisation. Hence parasites are paralysed and slowly die. Also hatching of nematode eggs is inhibited.

Uses- Roundworm, Hookworm, whipworm, tape worm, mixed worm infections

Albendazole

A

Similar mechanism like mebendazole.

Uses
- no preparation, post drug fasting is required.
Given on empty stomach for intestinal worms
For cysticercosis, hydatid, and cutaneous larvae- given with fatty meal

400mg adults - ascaris, hookworm, enterprising, trichuris. 200mg for children

400mg for 3 consecutive days in tapeworm, strongyloidosis infection.

Ivermectin

A

MOA - Activated glutamate gated chloride channels, causes increase in GABA transmission in worms which cause hyperpolarisation and paralysis in worms.

Uses - only drug orally effective in scabies and pediculosia

IVERMECTOL, IVERMECTIN
