Antifungals: Echinocandins and others Flashcards
what are the echinocandins
- caspofungin
- micafungin
- anidulafungin
when are echinocandins used
candida including azole resistant, aspergillus
ALL IV ONLY
beta glucan synthase inhibitors
ADE echinocandins
rare hepatic effects
MOA terbinafine
squalene epoxidase inhibitor so squalene cannot be made into lanosterol then ergosterol for the cell membrane
when to use terbinafine
oral or cream for dermatophytes or onychomycosis
half life of terbinafine
300 hours so accumulates in fat and nails
ADE of terbinafine
hepatotoxicity (monitor before and after)
MOA griseofulvin
fungistatic from species of penicillium, binds to tubulin inhibiting the function of the mitotic spindle
ADE griseofulvin
adverse reaction with ethanol like metronidazole
