Lasts: 24 hours
Type of sulfonlyurea
glipizide (glucotrol)
Glucotrols action
stimulates beta cells to secrete insulin
Interactions with Glucotrol
alcohol, anticoagulants, ASA, NSAID, anticonvulsant, beta blocker
Side effects of glucotrol
think hypoglycemia: drowsy, confused, vision disturbance, anxiety, hunger, nausea, GI upset
Metformin (Glucophage) action
increases binding of insulin to receptors and tissue sensitivity and decreases liver production of glucose
metformin (glucophage) side effects
WONT cause hypoglycemia; dizzy, fatigue, n/v/d, lactic acidosis
Acarbose (Precose)
inhibits digestive enzymes responsbile for glucose release
Piogliltazone (Actos)
decreases insulin resistance and improves blood control
Repaglinide (Prandin)
stimulates beta cells to release insulin
