Antidepressants Flashcards
What are the SEs of SSRIs?
Anorexia Wt loss Sexual dysfunction Seizures Hypomania ! Can precipitate it in bipolar disorser
What are SNRIs?
Serotoning -Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors- potent inhibitors of sero and norepinephrine-
They are second generation agents- with SSRIs have replaced 1st generation like Tricyclics and MAOIs.
Venlafaxine (also used for generalised anxiety)
Milnacipran
Dullxethine
SE: apperite loss, wr loss, sleep loss.
What is used for refractory and atypical depression?
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors- inhibit breakdown of serotonin by irriversibly inactivating enzymes- serotonin syndrome ( 2 drugs increase it- medical emergency- rarely used due to many SE
Phenelizine
What are tricyclics?
Block the re-uptake of noradrenaline and serotonin at the pre-synaptic membrane.
They increase monoamines in the synaptic cleft.
Amitriptyline
Imipramine
Notriptyline
What are common SE of TCAs?
Dry mouth
Blurred vision
Urinary retention
What are SSRIs?
Selective serotoning reuptake ingibitors- from synaptic cleft
