What are the key steps in using a glucometer?
Why should pts not squeeze fingers to get enough blood? what is something they should do?
do not squeeze because it causes cellular damage, and can lead to an inaccurate reading
do warm hands with warm water or make fist
How often should DM pts check their feet for wounds?
daily!!
they may lose feeling, and not know they have a wound
What are the three main types of carbohydrates?
Starch
Sugar
Fiber
What is the effect of protein on blood sugar?
keeps blood sugar more level, avoids peaks/valleys
*protein and fiber should be included with every meal
Where do foot exam findings go in the SOAP note?
objective - includes everything you did/saw
Where do pt recorded glucose readings go in the SOAP note?
objective - doesn’t matter that they were done at home
Where do we place the discussion of self care in the SOAP note?
plan
