Anticholinergic Therapeutic Actions
• Blocks the vagal effects leading to relaxation of smooth muscles in bronchi (bronchodilation)
Anticholinergic Indications
• Maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with COPD
Anticholinergic Contraindications and Cautions
Caution:
• Any condition that would be aggravated by the anticholinergic effects of the drug
• Not fir acute episodes on bronchospasm requiring immediate intervention
• Pregnancy and lactation

Implementation: • Adequate hydration • Environmental controls • Void prior to med administration • Safety measures • Small, frequent meals; sugarless lozenges • Injury prevention • Provide thorough patient teaching
