Anticancer Drug-Specific Toxicities Flashcards
Bleomycin
Pulmonary toxicity (pulmonary fibrosis), cutaneous toxicity
Cisplatin
Nephotoxicity, ototoxicity, peripheral neuropathy (motor and sensory)
cyclophosphamide, Ifosfamide
Hemorhhagic cystitis due to acrolein metabolite product
Methotrexate
Renal toxicity, hepatotoxicity, bone marrow toxicity, repro problems
Paclitaxel and Docletaxel
Peripheral neuropathy
Vincristine
Neurotoxicity (peripheral neuropathy)
Akylating Agents
Bone marrow, mucosal toxicity, nausea and vomiting, toxic effects on repro systems, increased leukemia risk
Carmustine and Lomustine
Renal toxicity, pulmonary fibrosis
Procarbazine
May cause leukemia
Oxailplatin
Peripheral sensory neuropathy (cold induced)
5-FU
Hand foot syndrome (erythema, sensitivity of palms and soles) Cardiac toxicity (acute chest pains)
6-MP
hepatatoxicity in prolonged use
Dactinomycin
hematopoietic suppression with pancytopenia
Anthracyclines
Irreversible dose dependent cardio toxicity, alopecia. Dexrazoxane is a iron chelating agent that block formation of free radicals and protects against cardiotoxicity
tamoxifen
hot flashes, hair loss, increased risk of endometrial cancer; increased risk of thromboembolic event.
