Antibody and Titer Tests Flashcards
CMV
cytomegalovirus (a member of Herpesviridae family; usually asymptomatic; can manifest with infectious mononucleosis (IM is usually caused by EB virus, but can be cytomegalovirus)
What does a positive CMV IgG indicate?
Past or current exposure to CMV (cytomegalovirus)
What does a positive CMV IgM mean?
Current infection with cytomegalovirus
What does a non-reactive HIV result mean?
No antibodies were found (but still could have an exposure within 6 weeks of test)
What does a positive Ehrlichia IgM mean?
Current Ehrlichiosis infection (bacterial illness transmitted by ticks that causes flu-like symptoms)
What does a positive RMSF IgG with negative IgM indicate?
Past exposure to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, no current infection
RMSF
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (bacterial infection caused by tick; causes fever, HA, rash, can be deadly if not treated with right ABX)
What does a FANA titer test for?
Fluorescent antinuclear antibodies; tests for presence of autoimmune condition
What is a positive FANA?
Anything more dilute than 1:40 (though 1:160 is a more absolute positive; test is very sensitive, not very selective).
What does a positive RF mean?
Positive rheumatoid factor; autoimmune condition
What does the nucleolar pattern of a FANA test mean?
Very little; suggestive of scleroderma of polymyositis (but not very reliable indicator)
Which ANA pattern is associated with systemic schleroderma
centromeric
Parvovirus B19 is usually mild in adults, but can cause _________ in people who are anemic or have compromised immune systems.
Anemia; stop bone marrow production of blood.
What enzyme does arsenic inhibit?
PDH
What enzyme does mercury inhibit?
PDH
What body system is most impacted by lead exposure?
Brain (nervous system)
