What is the function of bacteriostatic antibiotics?

A

Bacteriostatic AB’s inhibit the growth and replication of baceria
They work alongsie the immune system
Interefer with DNA replication, protien production and metabolism.

What is the function of bactericidal antibiotics?

A

Bactericidal AB’s kills bactria straight away by preventing it form forming a cell wall, this causes it to burst due to osmotic pressure
Penicillin is Bactericidal.

What is selective toxicity?

A

The ability of an AB to strke and kill foreign bodies and cells without harming any of our host cells.

What is gram positive ?

A

Gram positive bacteria have cell walls that can retain the Gram Stain during culture testing.

Gram positive infections usually occur in the respiratory tract and soft tissues e.g. Streptococcus phneumoniae

A
