Primary care treatment of suspected meningitis?
Urgent hospital transfer.
One off dose benzylpenicillin IV/IM (cefotaxamine if allergic).
DO NOT delay transfer to give ABx
Management of opthalmic shingles
oral Acyclovir and refer to ophthalmology
Hospital management of bacterial meningitis
Ceftriaxone IV + IV dexamethasone (+ IV amoxicillin if >60 or immunocompromised)
Hospital management of encephalitis
Acyclovir IV
Antibiotic for cellulitis
Flucloxacillin (doxycycline if allergic)
Management of viral meningitis
Supportive
Management conjunctivitis
1st line - bathe eye
2nd line - topical cholramphenicol
Management periorbital cellulitis
co-amoxiclav
Management of orbital cellulitis
REFER!! medical emergency
IV Ceftriaxone, flucloxacillin and metronidazole
Management dendritic ulcer
Topical ganciclovir
Management corneal ulcer
Ofloxacin
Management of Shingles
Acyclovir if present within 72 hours of rash beginning
Management impetigo
topical fusidic acid
oral flucloxacillin if v severe
Management fungal skin infection
Terbinafine cream if dermophyte
Clotrimazole if candida
Ketoconazole if on scalp
