Antibiotic Drugs Flashcards
Also known as prokaryotes which are single-celled organisms that lack a true nucleus and nuclear membrane.
Bacteria
Penetrates the bacterial cell wall and have an affinity for the bacteria’s bindig sites.
Antibacterial Drug
A type of resistance that occurs without previous exposure to the drug.
Inherent
A secondary infection that occurs when the normal microbial flora of the body are disturbed during antibiotic therapy.
Superinfection
Occurs when one antibiotic increases the effectiveness of the 2nd drug.
Potentiative effect
It is performed on body fluids to determine the MOs causing the infection.
Laboratory testing
It is performed on the skin which detects presence of allergen - specific IgE on a patient’s mast cells.
Skin testing
It has the broadest antibacterial actions of nay antibiotics.
Carbapenems
Destroys bacteria by altering their DNA.
Quinolones
Characterized by granulomas in the lungs from accumulation of inflammatory cells with a cheesy caseated consistency.
