Sulfonamides
Risk of cardiac arrhythmia (torsades de pointes)
Macrolides
Alternate option for patients with penicillin allergy
Monobactams
Assess for signs of seritonin syndrome
Oxazolidonones
Limit to 10 days of use to prevent serious side effects

Drink plenty of water with each dose
Bactrim (Sulfonamides)
Turns urine brown or orange
Nitrofurantoin (urinary tract antiseptic)
Effective against MRSA and VRE
Lipoglycopeptides
For IM injections keep the client under observations for 30 minutes
Penicillin
Monitor CBC for Anemia
Linezolid (oxazolidinone)
Monitor for C-Dif infection
Aztreonam (Monobactam)
Increase levels of warfarin and digoxin
Erythromycin (Macrolides)
Therapeutic Use: Ear and throat infections
Penicillin
Monitor PTT/INR because risk of bleeding
Monitor for thrombophlebitis
Cephalosporins (Cefotetan)
Take thorough seizure history and renal function
