What are some examples of Bile Acid Sequestrants and what do they do?
Questrant
They increase the secretion of bile acids in the stool
What are some adverse effects of Questrant?
Constipation, GI Upset, and Bad Taste
What does Nicotinic Acid (Niacin) do?
Reduce the production of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides by the liver
What is some special things to consider about Niacin?
- Only form of Vitamin B with cholesterol lowering powers
- If added onto a Statin, can cause Cardiovascular Disease
What are the function of Fibrates?
Reduces the livers production of VlDL and Speeds up removal of tryglycerides from blood stream

They are the most effective for lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels
What are some adverse effects of fibrates?
Severe Abdominal Pain and Jaundice
