Leprosy
Leprosy is caused by?
Chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae
Characterized by intact cell-mediated immunity, a positive lepromin skin
reaction, granuloma formation, and a relative paucity of bacilli.
TUBERCULOID LEPROSY
Characterized by depressed cell-mediated immunity, numerous bacilli within
the tissues, no granulomas, and negative skin test for lepromin.
LEPROMATOUS LEPROSY
What are drugs for Leprosy?

- Clofazimine
- Ethionamide & Prothionamide

Treatment and prevention of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in AIDS
patients who are allergic to or intolerant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.

Diacetylsulfone, for who cannot tolerate long-term oral
dapsone therapy.

Red-brown discoloration of the skin esp. in light skinned
persons.
