Anti-ice & Rain Flashcards
How many ice detectors are there?
System uses 2 detectors.
When is power supplied to the probes?
When either engine is running.
Is the ice detection system available on the ground?
No, inhibited on the ground below 75kts
When is power supplied to the ice detectors?
After engine start.
When is window heat applied?
System controlled automatically when the switches are in the ON position.
Do all flight deck windows have exterior surface anti-icing?
No, forward windows have exterior surface anti-icing and interior antifogging.
Side windows have interior antifogging only.
Which windows have backup antifogging?
Forward windows only.
How is the CAC inlet ice protected?
Electric heater on the leading edge of the inlet.
Operates automatically with signals from the ice detection system.
Inhibited on the ground and when TAT is above 10°C.
Can the engine anti-ice system be used on the ground?
Yes
Can the wing anti-ice system be used on the ground?
No, inhibited on the ground below 75kts.
Which anti-ice systems are controlled automatically by the automatic ice detection?
EAI, WAI and CAC inlet.
What are the cockpit indication of the EAI & WAI system operating?
EAI indication over N1 gauge
WAI indication over the EGT gauge
Which slats are heated by the wing anti-ice system?
The 4 midwing slats.
What happens to the engine idle setting when engine anti-ice is selected on?
Idle setting is set to Icing Idle to prevent engine icing.
How is a leak in the EAI system detected?
The respective engine anti-ice valves close.
EICAS “ANTI-ICE LEAK ENG L/R”
When do the engine anti-ice valves close automatically?
- During start
- Bleed air overtemperature
- Bleed air overpressure
- Bleed air leak detected
- Engine fire switch pulled
How many thermal anti-icing mats are on each protected slat?
Three
How is asymmetric wing icing prevented?
System operates mats symmetrically.
If a mat fails on one wing, power is removed from opposite side mat.
When does the wing anti-ice system operate with the selector in the ON position?
In the air, any time the TAT is <25°C
How many probes are heated?
- 3 pitot probes
- 2 AOA probes
- 2 ice detectors
- 2 TAT probes
When is power supplied to the TAT probes?
In flight
