Anti-Fungal Drugs Flashcards
What are the three mode of action for anti-fungals?
Ergosterol binding, ergosterol inhibition and glucan-polysaccharide synthesis inhibition
What sub-classes of anti-fungals are there?
Polyenes, Azoles, Alylamines and Echinocandins
What mode of action do polyenes have?
Ergosterol binding
What mode of action do azoles have?
Ergosterol synthesis inhibition
What mode of action do alylamines have?
Ergosterol synthesis inhibition
What action do echinocandins have?
Gluten-polysaccharide synthesis inhibition
Name two polyenes and what they treat?
Amphotericin-B and Nystatin
Name two Imidazoles (older generation)
Miconazole and Ketoconazole
What infections do imidazoles typically act on?
Dermatophytes
Name three triazoles (newer generation)
Fluconazole, itraconazole and voriconazole
What are the actions of the triazole examples?
- Fluconazole (yeasts) - Itrazole (everything) - Voriconazole (aspergillus)
What example of alylamine do we have?
Terbinafine (dermatophyte action)
What three echinocandin examples do we have?
Caspofungin, Mycafungin and Anidulafungin (all have action against aspergillus spp.)
