Anti diabetic drug Flashcards
3 classes of anti-diabetic drug
1.insulin sensitizer
2.insulin secretagogues
3.alpha glucosidase inhibitor
classification of anti-diabetic drug
1.sulfonylureas
2.meglitinides
3.biguanides
4.thiazolidinediones
5.alpha-glucosidase inhibitors.
what is sulfonylureas, and example of drug
-it promotes insulin release from B-cell
-ex: tolbutamide,glyburide, glipizide,glimepiride
what is meglitinide, and what example
it promotes insulin release from the beta cells, by closing the ATP-dependent K+ channel in pancreatic beta cells. this will result in the depolarization of B cells, calcium channel opening, and calcium influx.
-repaglinides
-nateglinides
what is biguanides, and what example
-insulin sensitizer
-by inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis, decreasing intestinal absorption of carbs, decreasing hyperlipidemia, decreasing cvs mortality
-metformin
what is thiazolidinedione and what example
-insulin sensitizer, by activating PPAR-gamma, then, agents that bind to PPAR-gamma will increase insulin sensitivity
-pioglitazone
-rosigglitazone
what is alpha-glucosidase inhibitor
inhibit the action of alpha-glucosidase enzyme in the small intestine, resulting in a delay of digestion and absorption of carbs.
type of insulin
1.rapid acting insuline (glulisine,lispro,aspart)
2.short-acting (homulin R, novolin R)
3.int-acting (Neutral Protamine Hagedorn NPH)
4.Long acting (Detemir, Glargine)
