Lovenox

A
LMW Heparin anti-coag
Anti-10a (binds to antithrombin)
SFX Heparin Induced thrombocytopenia
bleeding
Nursing considerations:
education about bleeding precautions
Subq injection
2 in from umbilicus or any scar tissue
antidote:protamine sulfate (1mg of protamine sulfate for every mg of Lovenox )

Phytonadione

Vitamin K1

A

Vitamin K1
Makes clotting factors, tx hypoprothromboinemia, babies born with vit. K deficency, OD warfarin(coumadin)
SFX: Shock,Cardiac Arrest, Kerincterus
Nursing considerations:
Bile salts required for absorption, Increased risks w/IV admin

SULFONAMIDES

A

Tx: UTI, STD,Trachoma, Nocardosis,
AFX: Nausea, vomiting, Diarrhea, hepatocellular necrosis
Contraindications: Allergy, Pregnancy/Lactation, Kernicterus, Hx of renal disease

Heparin

A

Tx: Pulmonary Embolism, Prophylaxis for DVT
MOA: activates clotting factors 2 & 10, suppresses coagulation
SFX: Heparin-Induced-Thrombocytopenia, Hemorage
IMPORTANT:Monitor aPTT times 45-75 sec considered therapeutic (normal range 25-35 sec.)
Safe for pregnenacy/lactation
Antidote: Protamine Sulfate

Aspirin

A

Indications: Fever, pain, inflammation, Prophylaxis for thrombotic events
MOA: Inhibits prostglandins, pyrogens,inhibits platelet aggregation
Adverse FX: Bleeding(withhold 7-10 days b4 surgery), GI ulcers,pancytopenia, Reyes Syndrome in children
