Anthropology Flashcards
Theistic Evolution refutation
- evolution says that all life began in the ocean while Genesis teaches that life began on land
- the order of events in evolutionary theory differs from that presented in the Genesis account.
- theistic evolution assumes the Genesis account to be allegorical and/or poetic with no reason to do so (proper hermeneutics)
- derivation of man from a non-human ancestor cannot be reconciled with Genesis 1:26, 27 and Genesis 2:7
- evolution teaches that the development of fish and birds are separated by hundreds of millions of years while Genesis says they were created together
- evolution assumes a concurrent evolution of man and woman while Genesis teaches that woman was created from man’s side
- evolution is seen as an ongoing process over several millenia, even possibly continuing today, while Genesis 2:1 and 2:2 state that God is finished at the close of the creation week.
Gap Theory
- Hebrew grammar- Genesis 1:1 is an independent clause, while 1:2 is composed of three circumstantial clauses explaining the condition of the Earth as God is creating it
- The Gap Theory hinges on the terms “form” and “void” being the result of God’s judgement while similar uses in both Job 26:7 and Isaiah 45:18 do not support this assumption (proper hermeneutics)
- “tohuw” literally means a worthless thing; nothing
- “bohuw” literally means to be empty; indistinguishable
- Romans 5- death entered the world through sin and Adam. cannot have death before sin
Progressive Creationism
Day-Age Theory
- Hebrew grammar- olam is the term most commonly used in Hebrew to indicate a long period of time; yom most commonly is used to refer to a common day period
- the use of a numerical adjective with yom always refers to a common day
- the phrase “evening and morning” is strongly indicative of a common day
- if man has been on Earth for 1 million years, the genealogies in Genesis 5 and 11 would require a 50,000 year gap between each name
- if life has been on Earth for 1 billion years, then each day of creation would have to represent 125 million years
- according to Genesis, plants were created on the 3rd day and the sun on the 4th making anything but a common day impossible
- the use of 2 peter 3:8 as support is a classic illustration of prooftexting
- the pattern of exodus 20:9-11 (sabbath) is ludicrous unless the days of creation are common days
Ways man is made in God’s image
God is a triune being, he gave us a trinity
God is a moral being, he gave us a conscience
God is a passionate being, he gave us emotions
3 different theories for origin of man’s soul

- traducian theory
Preexistence theory
each man receives his soul from a previous existence in the past (false)
Creationist theory
each soul is a special and immediate creation which enters the fetus early in its development (false)
Traducian Theory
both body and soul are passed on through natural generation (genetics) (correct)

Imputation theories for effects of man’s fall
A. liberal position B. Pelagian Position C. Arminian Position D. Augustinain Position E. Federal Position
Liberal Position
story is a Hebrew legend and thus has no impact at all (false)
Pelagian Position
because God imputes to a man only those sins which he personally commits, Adam’s sin affected only himself. The only impact on posterity was that of a bad example (false)
