anterior neck and Muscles Flashcards
platysma insertion
fascia covering parts of pectoralis major and deltoid muscles
platysma orgin
inferior border of mandible, skin and subcutaneous tissues over over lower face
platysma innervation
cervical branch of facial nerve ( CN VII)
platysma action
draws corners of mouth inferiorly and widens as it expresses sadness and fright
sternocleidomastoid orgin
lateral surface of mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral half of inferior nuchal line
sternocleidomastoid insertion
Sternal Head: anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
Clavicular head: superior surface of medial 3rd clavicle
sternocleidomastoid innervation
spinal accessory nerve ( CN XI; motor) C2, C3 nerves (pain/proprioception)
sternocleidomastoid action
Unilateral contraction: tilts head same side laterally flexes and turns face superiorly and upward toward opposite side
Bilateral contraction: 1 extends neck at atlanto occipital joints (chin down) 2 flexes cervical vertebrae 3 extends superior cervical vertebrae
Mylohyoid orgin
Mylohyoid line of mandible
Mylohyoid insertion
Mylohyoid raphe and body of hyoid
Mylohyoid innervation
nerve to Mylohyoid branch of inferior aveolar nerve ( from madibular nerve CN V3
Mylohyoid action
elevates hyoid , floor of mouth and tongue during swallowing
Geniohyoid orgin
inferior mental spine of mandible
Geniohyoid insertion
body of hyoid
Geniohyoid innervation
C1 via hypoglossal nerve (CN XIII)
Geniohyoid action
Pulls hyoid anterosuperiorly; shortens floor of mouth
styloid hyoid orgin
styloid process of temporal bone
styloid hyoid insertion
body of hyoid
styloidhyoid innervation
styloid branch of facial nerve (CN VII)
styloid hyoid action
elevates and retracts hyoid, thus elongating floor of mouth
digastric orgin
Anterior belly: digastric fossa of mandible
Posterior Belly: mastoid notch of temporal bone
digastric insertion
intermediate tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid
