Anterior Lesions Flashcards
What is emergence profile?
Draw the emergence profile on tooth 11:
What is an occlusal cant?
what is smile line?
Emergence profile: the natural contour of the tooth - changes in angulation of a tooth as it emerges from the gingiva moving towards the incisal edge
Occlusal cant: teeth appear to be slanted, left and right sides are different
Smile line: amount of gingiva showing when patient smiles (average: 0.2mm gum, high = too much gums showing, low = top lip covers teeth)
What is buccal corridor?
What is gingival zenith?
Buccal corridor: dead space next to teeth, wide buccal corridor = narrow smile, closed buccal corridor = full smile taking up whole mouth
Gingival zenith: most apical point of the gingival scallop
What features do incisors have on the labial surface?
Anything to note on a canine?
- lobes
- developmental grooves: between lobes
- transitional line angles: mesial and distal which are similar to marginal ridge in posterior teeth
Canine:
- prominent middle lobe, mesial and distal developmental grooves
- distal groove longer than mesial
What is important to consider when selecting a shade?
- hue: basic colour (A, B, C, D on vita shade guide)
- chroma: intensity of the colour (A1, A2, A3, A4)
- value: brightness/lightness of restoration
- translucencies/opalescence, characteristics (stains/imperfections), texture/form
When selecting shade for teeth it is important to:
- take shade of moist teeth
- take shade from middle 1/3 of the tooth
- ask dental nurse for opinion
When determining hue, where should you place the shade tab?
Chromatic effect?
Hue: take shade tab to the cervical area of the tooth to be restored or the canine
- cervical area of canine has highest density of dentine –> give true hue for the tooth
Chromatic effect: take shade from cervical, middle and incisal third of the tooth
