Anterior Forearm Flashcards
Pronator Teres
Origin: two heads - medial epicondyle and coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: midway along lateral surface of radius
Innervation: median nerve
Blood Supply: anterior ulnar recurrent artery
Action: pronates forearm and assists with elbow flexion
Flexor Carpi Radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: base of 2nd metacarpal
Innervation: median nerve
Blood Supply: radial artery
Action: flexes hand at wrist and abducts hand at wrist
Palmaris Longus
Origin: medial epicondyle
Insertion: distal 1/2 of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Innervation: median nerve
Blood Supply: posterior ulnar recurrent artery
Action: flexes hand at wrist and tenses palmar aponeurosis
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin: humeral head - medial epicondyle and ulnar head - olecranon and posterior border of ulna
Insertion: pisiform, hook of hamate, and base of 5th metacarpal
Innervation: ulnar nerve
Blood Supply: posterior ulnar recurrent artery
Action: flexes hand at wrist and adducts hand at wrist
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Origin: humero-ulnar head - medial epicondyle and coronoid process and radial head - superior 1/2 of anterior radius
Insertion: bodies of middle phalanges of medial 4 digits
Innervation: median nerve
Blood Supply: ulnar artery and radial artery
Action: flexes middle and proximal phalanges of medial 4 digits and flexes hand at wrist
Flexor Digitorum Profundus
Origin: anterior and medial surface of proximal 3/4 ulna and interosseous membrane
Insertion: palmar base of distal phalanges of medial 4 digits
Innervation: medial half - ulnar nerve and lateral half - median nerve (anterior interosseous nerve)
Blood Supply: anterior interosseous artery
Action: flexes distal phalanges of medial 4 digits and assists with flexion of hand at wrist
Flexor Pollicis Longus
Origin: anterior surface of radius and interosseous membrane
Insertion: palmar base of distal phalanx of thumb
Innervation: anterior interosseous nerve
Blood Supply: anterior interosseous artery
Action: flexes phalanges of thumb
Pronator Quadratus
Origin: distal 1/4 of anterior ulna
Insertion: distal 1/4 of anterior radius
Innervation: anterior interosseous nerve
Blood Supply: anterior interosseous artery
Action: pronates forearm
