Anterior femoral muscles Flashcards
Iliacus
Attachments: iliac fossa to lesser trochanter of femur
Actions: flexes thigh and stabilizes hip joint
Innervation: Femoral nerve and lumbar plexus branches
blood supply: iliolumbar, deep circumflex iliac, femoral, and obturator
Psoas
Attachments: anterior lumbar transfers process vertebral bodies and discs to lesser trochanter of femur
Actions:Flexes thigh and stabilizes hip joint
Innervation: ventral rami L1-3
Blood supply: lumbar, iliolumbar, obturator, external iliac, femoral a.
Rectus femoris
Attachments: from anterior inferior iliac spine and groove superior to the acetabulum to the base of the patella
Actions: flexes thigh and extends leg
Innervation: femoral nerve
blood supply: femoral, lateral circumflex femoral
Sartorius
Attachments: anterior superior iliac spine to the medial aspect of the proximal tibia
Actions: flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh, and flexes leg
Innervations: femoral nerve
bloody supply: femoral, lateral circumflex femoral, and descending genicular
Tensor fasciae latae
Attachments: from anterior superior iliac spine and adjacent iliac crest to the iliotibial tract
Actions: abducts, flexes, and medially rotates thigh, and assists in maintaining extended leg
Innervation: Superior gluteal nerve
Bloody supply: lateral circumflex femoral (ascending), superior gluteal, and superficial circumflex iliac
Vastus intermedius
Attachments: from the anterior aspect of the proximal 2/3rds of the femoral shaft to the base of the patella
Actions: extends leg
Innervation: femoral nerve
Bloody supply: femoral and profunda femoral a.
Vastus lateralis
Attachments: from the lateral/posterior femur to the lateral border of the patella
Actions: extends leg
Innervation: femoral nerve
Bloody supply: laterial circumflex femoral (descending), femoral, and 1st perforating
Vastus medialis
Attachments: From the medial/posterior femur to the medial border of the patella
Actions: extends leg
Innervations: femoral nerve
Blood supply: femoral, profunda femoral, and descending genicular a.
