Antenatal Testing Flashcards
when are antenatal tests used
can be done in response to decreased fetal movement
high-risk patients who need close monitoring
contraction stress testing once delivery begins
what is a non-stress test
assess the fetal heart rate for accelerations and variability
acceleration if >32wks
15x15, 2 in 20
accelerations if <32wks
10x10, 2 in 20
what is a reactive NST
baby doing well
if NST reactive and was used for decreased fetal movement
no further testing required
if NST for high-risk patients and reactive NST
may be indicated weekly or twice weekly until delivery
who are high-risk patients
DM
preeclampsia
>41wks
if non-reactive NST after 20mins
give an additional 20mins for accels to accur
if non-reactive NST after 40mins
vibroacoustic stimulation tried
if non-reactive NST after vibroacoustic stimulation
biophysical profile
what is a biophysical profile (BPP)
in utero APGAR
how is BPP performed
NST and ultrasound
what are the factors of BPP?
1 - NST 2 - breathing 3 - body movement 4 - tone 5 - amniotic fluid
if BPP 0-2
deliver baby
if BPP 8-10
baby is normal, treat like normal NST
if BPP 4-6
assess gestational age
if BPP 4-6 and GA >36wks
deliver
- oxytocin
- c/s
if BPP 4-6 and GA <36wks
contraction stress test
if BPP 4-6, GA <36wks, & no late decels
reassuring
grow baby
if BPP 4-6, GA<36wks, & late decels
fetal demise risk
deliver c/s
