Uses of Folic acid in pregnancy
- To prevent NTD
- To prevent recurrence of NTD
- To treat folic acid deficiency
- To treat sickle cell anemia
Dose of folic acid to prevent NTD
400 mcg/day to all pregnant women
Start 1 month before conception and continue till 3 months after conception
Dose of folic acid to prevent recurrence of NTD
4 mg/day given to females with h/o baby with NTD
Start 3 months before conception or from the day female plans pregnancy and 3 months after conception
Dose of folic acid to prevent FA deficiency

Td vaccine in pregnancy

Booster dose: given if 2 doses of immunization received in past 3 years
TDaP vaccine in pregnancy
TDaP: Tetanus+Diphtheria+acellular Pertussis
Protection against pertussis for the baby
ACOG: Single shot b/w 27-36 weeks
Investigations done in 1st ANC visit
- ABO, Rh typing (If Rh -ve: Do husband’s Rh typing and Indirect Coomb’s test)
- Hb (Checked at least 4 times in pregnancy), Hematocrit
- VDRL
- HbsAg
- Urine R/m
- HIV testing: Opt- out approach
- DIPSI: Repeat at 24-28 weeks
- Group B Streptococci: 35-37 weeks (Rectovaginal swab taken)
Additional tests done in 1st ANC visit
- TSH
- Aneuploidy
