- treats acidosis, elevates urinary pH to excrete acidic meds following overdose

- inactivate pepsin to enhance mucosal protection

- take on regular schedule
- chew thoroughly followed by water or milk
- allow 1 h between antacid administration and other meds (bc of interference) **
