Ant 4 Flashcards
What is the difference between neoliberalism and late capitalism, as explained by Ortner?
sped up and extreme
What are the 2 aspects of the shift from capitalism to neoliberalism (late capitalism)
Fordism to post fordism- The shift from factory goods to service/info goods
Post fordism is repetitive and is more focused on mass customization to customer preference
fast and efficient customer, communicates with producer-global
Keynesian to post keynesian- Government regulated market to free market
Know the main critiques of neoliberal processes
- Critique is that it marginalizes the poor and allows the rich to grow richer at their detriment, also promoting corruption.
- Neoliberaism makes culture something that should be consumed and therefore marketed
- hides structural violence of place by packaging itself
- responds to western ideals of superiority and racism
Know the type of personhood that neoliberalisms favor and generate.
o Individual agency→defined though market driven notions of individualism, competition, and consumption
o Performance self→ self as a project, bundle of skills and alliances that need to be managed and enhanced (not your real self)
