ANS spinal nerves Flashcards
what is it split into
ympathetic part, parasympathetic part and enteric nervous system
Describe the enteric ns
extensive, web-like structure of reflex pathways that control the digestive functions
muscle contraction/relaxation, secretion/absorption, and blood flow
The SNS and PNS motor pathways consist of a two neuron series:
a preganglionic neuron with a cell body in the CNS and a postganglionic neuron with a cell body in the periphery that innervates target tissues.
Parasympathetic part
oculomotor3, facial7, glossopharyngeal9, vagus 10 and sacral splanchnic nerves
Sympathetic part
consists of cell bodies in the lateral horn of the spinal cord from T1 to L2.
Difference between sym and parasym preganglionic fibers
sympathetic preganglionic fibers are shorter and form more synapses than parasym.
Diff in terms of postganglionic fibers between sym and para
sympathetic division use noradrenaline as a neurotransmitter. Parasympathetic division use acetylcholine.
Mixed plexus, examples
composed of sympathetic and parasympathetic fibers
cardiac plexus, pulmonary plexus, Esophageal plexus, Abdominal aortic plexus, Superior hypogastric plexus, Inferior hypogastric plexus.
