Q

Effects of sympathetic activation (eye, trachea, heart, gastrointestinal, blood vessels, adipose, ureter/bladder, skin)

A

Eye = pupil dilation

Trachea = dilation Liver = glycogenolysis/gluconeogenesis

Heart = ↑ rate and contractility

Gastrointestinal = ↓ motility and tone/ sphincter contraction

Blood vessels = skeletal muscle dilation, skin/mucous membranes/splanchnic area constriction

Adipose = lipolysis Kidney = ↑ renin secretion

Ureters/bladder = relax detrusor + contract trigone/sphincter

Skin = piloerection + ↑ sweating

Q

Outline the action of the enteric nervous system

A

Sensory neurone attached to mucosal chemoreceptors and stretch receptors => detect chemical substances/gut wall tension from food => information to submucosal and myenteric plexus via interneurons =>motor neurones contract/relax smooth muscle
