ANS Flashcards
Sympathetic
Fight or flight
Parasympathetic
Rest and digest
Enteric
peristalsis & GI secretions
Work without input from sns /psns
Mechanoreceptors
Stretch - veins bladder intestines
Pressure- aorta carotid sinuse and lungs
Chemoreceptors
Chemical concentration in blood
Medulla- hydrogen and CO2
Hypothalamus- blood glucose
Taste buds olfactory stomache
Nociceptors
Viscera- pressure and chemicals
Arterial walls- pressure, ischemia
Thermoreceptors
Hypothal- blood temp
Cutaneous- skin temp
Parasympathetic pre gang originate
In brainstem or sacral spinal cord (s2-4)
Sympathetic originates
T1-L2/3
Vagus nerve has what receptors?
Chemo bars noci mechao from aortic arch resp and digestive
1st afferent pathway
1st- cranial nerves from viscera to nucleus solitarius (medulla) and integrates and send to autonomic centers in RF (pons and medulla), pregang neurons SNS PNS and parabrachial nuclear complex
2nd route for afferent input
Visceral receptors -2nd order neuron (anterolateral) to VPL of thalamus OR dorsal column (DCML)- nucleus solitarius- autonomic centers in ponto-medullary RF.
Local interneurons in dorsal horn
Intermediate grey regions of SC where pregang of SNS PNS are visceral reflex actions
What controls autonomic fxns
Pons and medulla
Medulla
HR resp vasoconstriction/dilation via ANS eff in SC and via vagus nerve
Pons
Control respiration
