ANS Flashcards
Sympathetic preganglionic cells
thoracolumbar origin, axons leave via ventral roots, Short fibers w/much divergence FOUND EVERYWHERE
Parasympathetic preganglionic cells
Craniosacral origin, Long fibers w/ little divergence FOUND ONLY IN VISCERAL CAV, EXTERNAL GENITALIA, EYES, GLANDS
Sympathetic NT
ACh > nicotinic reveptors, NE > adrenergic receptors
Parasympathetic NT
ACh, ACh> muscarinic receptors
Enteric Nervous System
3rd division of ANS. An intrinsic network of the G tract capable of generating rhythmic contraction/relaxation w/o CNS
ENS NT
non-peptides: serotonin, ATP, Dopamine, nit ox
Peptides: CCK, Enkaphalins, Gastrin-releasing pep, Neuropep Y, Sub P, somatostatin, VIP
Visceral Afferent Neurons
90% are unmyelinated C fibers
Cell bodies in Dorsal root gang, or cranial n gang
Low density of receptors in tissue and low neuronal rep in cerebral cortical perception areas
Visceral Afferents in sympathetic nerve trunks
lead to perceived visceral pain
Visceral Afferents in parasympathetic nerve trunks
perform unperceived reg function
Micturition reflex
Voiding of urinary bladder. ANS determines contraction of bladder. Somatics determine control of sphincters
Carotid Sinus Reflex
Controls BP when moving from lying to standing. Integration of baroreceptors in the carotid sinus and both divisions of ANS
Viscerosomatic Reflex
Protective reflex generated by visceral afferents in the peritoneum or w/in visceral organs. Integrated w/ somatic motor neurons innervating the abdominal wall. Results in tightening of the muscles to protect the affected visceral organ
