Northern Economy:
-Factories/Manufacturing and Industry

-Railroads and ports improved transportation which increased manufacturing
Southern Economy:
-Good climate
-large plantations
-Cotton demand went up, so the slave demand went up
Tariff of Abominations
- In 1828, tariffs were passed to raise the price of imported goods
Compromise of 1850
-California admitted as a free state
-Slave trade in Washington D.C. would end
-Stronger Fugitive Slave Laws would be passed to help slave holders
-Utah and New Mexico would determine slavery by popular sovereignty
Missouri Compromise
-Outlawed slavery north of 36”30 Line - except Missouri
-Add a Free state at the same time - Maine
-Maintained the balance of power in the U.S. Senate between free and slave states
