- a type of eating disorder where a person feels the need to keep their weight as low as possible
- affects 2.4 million in the Uk
- most common in western culture
- mist common in girls
- 25% of those who are anorexic are men
- commonly occurs in adolescents
- sttarts from as young as 7

physical symptoms of anoreoxia:
A
- extreme weight loss
- fatigue and weakness
- fainting or dizziness

behavioural symptoms:
A
- obsessions with food and excercise
- obsession with body weight
- lying about how much and when they’ve eaten

emtional symptoms:

- irritability
- lack of mood and emotion
- phobia of weight gain

cognitive symtpoms:
A
- not being able to understand the seriousness of the situation
- disturbed sleep patterns
- low concentration levels

what is the criteria for the ICD-10?
A
- significant weight loss, e.g, having a body weight that is atleast 15% below what is expected for the individual’s age and height
- intense Fear of Gaining Weight:
- having a distorted body image
