anomolly Flashcards
alder
recessive; decreased lipid degradation; prominent dark staining granules in 1 or more cell lines; seen in Hunter’s or Hurler’s syndrome (inborn errors of metabolism
Chediak-Higashi Syndrome – giant peroxidase positive lysosomal granules in cells; mucocutaneous hemorrhage from thrombocytopenia
May-Hegglin Anomaly – rare autosomal dominant; patient is at risk for infections and mucocutaneous hemorrhage; large Döhle-like bodies; often includes thrombocytophenia; most patients are asymptomatic; may cause bleeding episodes
Necrobiosis – dying neutrophil; only report if seen in large numbers, few are normal
Nuclear Extrusion Anomaly – “drumsticks” or Barr bodies; may be inactivated X chromosome in women; increased numbers may be result of genetic defect
Pelger-Huёt – hyposegmentation; autosomal dominant: bi-lobed or “pince-nez”; homozygous: no segmentation; check pt’s chart for history of disease; reporting as left shift could cause overtreatment; may have pseudo-Pelger-Huёt cells during/after chemo
Twinning Anomaly – mirror image of nucleus (axial symmetry); acquired in malignancies and chemotherapy; very rare
