ANOIA Back/Spine/Thorax Flashcards
Origin of trapezius
external occipital protuberance, medial portion of superior nuchal line of occiput, ligamentum nuchae, spinous process C7-T12
Insertion of trapezius
lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
Action of upper fibers trapezius
Bilaterally: extend head and neck
Unilaterally: lateral flexion of head to same side, rotate head opposite side, elevate scapula, upward rotation of scapula (S/T joint)
Action of middle fibers trapezius
adduct scapula (S/T joint), stabilize scapula (S/T joint)
Action of lower fibers trapezius
depress scapula (S/T joint), Upwardly rotate scapula (S/T joint)
Nerve innervation trapezius
Spinal portion of crainial nerve XI (accessory) and ventral ramus C2,3,4
Origin Rhomboid major
spinous process T2-T5
Insertion Rhomboid major
medial border of scapula between spine and inferior angle
Action rhomboid major
adduct scapula (scapulothoracic joint), elevate scapula (S/T joint), downwardly rotate scapula (S/T joint)
Nerve innervation rhomboid major
dorsal scapular C4, 5
origin levator scapula
transverse processes of C1-C4
Insertion levator scapula
medial border of scapula between superior angle and superior portion of spine of scapula
action levator scapula
Unilaterally: elevate scapula (scapulothoracic joint), downwardly rotate scapula (S/T joint), Laterally flex head and neck, rotate head and neck to same side
Bilaterally: Extend head and neck
nerve innervation levator scapula
cervical 3, 4 and dorsal scapular C4, 5
Origin longissimus
common tendon (thoracis), transverse processes of upper 5 thoracic vertebrae (cervicis and capitis)
Insertion longissimus
Lower 9 ribs and transverse procsses of thoracic vertebrae (thoracis), transverse processes of cervical vertebrae (cervicis), mastoid process of temporal bone (capitis)
Action longissimus
Unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column to same side
Bilaterally: extend vertebral column
nerve innervation longissimus
spinal
origin multifidi
sacrum and transverse processes of lumbar through cervical vertebrae
insertion multifidi
spinous processes of lumbar vertebrae through C2 (span 2 or 4 vertebrae)
action multifidi
Unilaterally: rotate vertebral column to opposite side
Bilaterally: extend vertebral column
