Regulation 4 Deck line

A
  1. The deck line is the horizontal line 300mm in length and 25mm in thickness
  2. It shall be marked amidships on both sides of the hull and it shall normally pass through the point where the continuation outwards of the upper surface of the freeboard deck intersects at the outer surface of the shell, provided that the deck line may be placed with reference to another fixed point on the condition that the freeboard is correspondingly corrected.
  3. the location of the reference point and identification of freeboard deck shall be provided in ILLC

Regulation 5 Load line mark

A

The loadline mark shall consist of ring 300mm in outer diameter and 25mm wide which is intersected by a horizontal line 450mm in length and 25mm in breadth, the upper edge of which passes through the centre of the ring.
The centre of the ring shall be placed amidships and at a distance equal to assigned Summer freeboard measured vertically below the upper edge of the deck line.

Regulation 6 Lines to be used with the loadline mark

A
  1. The lines which indicate the loadline in accordance with these regulation shall be 230mm in length and 25mm in breadth, unless expressly provided otherwise and right angles to, a vertical line 25mm in breadth marked at a distance of 540mm forward of the centre of the ring.

Seasonal loadlines as per regulation 6

A

The following load lines shall be used

  1. the summer load line indicated as the upper edge of the line which passes through the centre of the ring and also marked S.
  2. the winter load line indicated by the upper edge of the line marked W
  3. the winter north Atlantic loadline indicated by the upper edge of the line marked WNA.
  4. the tropical load line indicated by the upper edge of the line marked T
  5. The summer freshwater load line indicated by upper edge of line marked F. the summer fresh water load line is marked abaft of the vertical line. the difference b/n the summer loadline and fresh water line is allowances to be made for loading in fresh water at other load lines.
  6. the tropical fresh water load line indicated by the upper edge of the line marked TF

Timber loadlines as per regulation 6

A

If timber freeboards are assigned in accordance with these regulations, the lines shall be 230mm in length and 25mm in breadth which extend abaft unless expressly provided otherwise, and at right angles to a vertical line marked at a distance 540mm aft of the centre of the ring.

Seasonal timber loadlines

A
  1. the summer timber loadline indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LS
  2. the winter timber loadline indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LW
  3. the winter North Atlantic load line indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LWNA
  4. the tropical timber loadline indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LT
  5. the summer fresh water line is indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LF forward of the vertical line. the diff b/n the summer load line and freshwater loadline is allowances to be made for loading in freshwater at other timber loadlines.
  6. the tropical timber fresh water loadline is indicated by the upper edge of the line marked LTF marked forward of the vertical line.

exceptions as per regulation 6

A
  1. where the characteristics of the ship or the nature of service or the navigational limits make any of the seasonal lines inapplicable then these lines can be omitted.
  2. Where a ship is assigned a greater than minimum freeboard so that the load line is marked at a position corresponding to, or lower than the lowest seasonal load line assigned at minimum freeboard in accordance with present protocol only the fresh water load line need be marked.
  3. where the winter North Atlantic load line is identical with winter load line corresponding to the same vertical line, this line shall be marked W.
  4. Alternative/additional load lines required by other international conventions in force may be marked at right angles to and abaft the vertical line specified in paragraph (1).

regulation 7 - mark of assigning authority

  1. the mark of the authority may be indicated alongside the load line ring above the horizontal line which passes through the centre of the ring or above and below it.
  2. not more than 4 letters
  3. 115mm in height and 75mm in width
