Annelida Flashcards
Phylum Annelida body characteristics
tripoblastic, eucelomate, head in two parts:pro and peristomium, setae, complete digestive tract,
Phylum Annelida classes (3)
Polychaeta, Oligochaeta, Hirudunea
Distinct to polychaetes
parapodia with setae
Annelid head
Prostomium and peristomium
metameric structures
nephridium, septa, ganglion, muscles, celomic compartments, lateral blood vessel
non metameric
crop, gizzard, ovaries/testes, aortic arch
peristalsis
alternating waves of muscular contraction
longitudinal and circular muscles. (antagonistic muscles+coelomic cavities)
longitudinal muscular contraction the setae
are retracted
circular muscular contraction the setae
are extended
coelomic fluid
acts as hydrostatic skeleton
Lophotrochozoa lophophre phylum(2)
Phoronida-looks like polyp with feathers
Brachiopoda -like clam with feathers( valves look like shell)
Oligocheate septa and celomic fluid
Oligochete septa are internal dividers of the coelom that isolate coelomic fluid within each segment or metamere. The septa act as complete partitions- coelomic fluid does not leak out of one segment into the next one.
New Annelid worms
sedentaria and errantia
