Ankle Special Tests Flashcards
Anterior Drawer Test
Ant. talofibular ligament sprain
supine, 20 degrees PF, draw talus forward in ankle mortise.
Lateral rotation stress test (Kleiger test)
Deltoid Ligament tear or High ankle sprain
seated dependent, apply lateral rotation force to the foot
Positive = pain over anterior or posterior tibiofibular ligament and interosseous membrane (high ankle) OR pain medially and talus shifting away from medial malleolus (deltoid)
Talar tilt test
Calcaneofibular Ligament Sprain
sidelying with knee flexed 90 degrees. Tilt talus into abduction and adduction
Positive = excessive adduction
Thompson test
Ruptured Achilles tendon
prone, feet extended over edge of the table. PT squeezes muscle belly of gastroc and soleus
Positive = absense of plantar flexion
Tibial torsion test
Measuring amount of “toe out”
Normal lateral torsion is 12-18 degrees in an adult
True leg length discrepancy test
supine with hip and knees extended, measure from ASIS to medial malleoli.
Significant = >1cm variation between legs
