Chloride in solution [Cl-]
Acidify solution with dilute nitric acid, then add AQ silver nitrate.
White precipitate of silver chloride formed: precipitate soluble in ammonia solution.

Add to dilute hydrochloric acid to solid. Effervescents [fizzes], carbon dioxide produced
Bromide in solution [Br-]
Acidify solution with dilute nitric acid, then add aq silver nitrate
Cream precipitate of silver bromide form: only slightly soluble in ammonia solution
Iodide [I-] [in solution]
Acidify solution with dilute nitric acid, then add aq silver nitrate
Yellow precipitate of silver iodide formed: insoluble in ammonia solution
or acidify solution with dilute nitric acid, then ad lead nitrate solution
Yellow precipitate of lead iodide formed
Nitrate (No3 -) in solution
Make alkaline with sodium hydroxide solution, then add aluminium foil and warm carefully
Ammonium gas given off [test with moist red litmus]
Sulfate in solution [SO4 2-]
Acidify solution with dilute nitric acid, then add barium nitrate solution
White precipitate of barium sulfate formed
