Animal Responses Flashcards
What is the Central Nervous System (CNS) ?
The brain and spinal cord which mainly consists of relay neurones
What is the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) ?
The Nervous System that is responsible for unconscious movements
What does the Sympathetic Nervous System do?
It prepares the body for activity and stress
What does the Parasympathetic Nervous System do?
Conserve energy
What is the Cerebrum?
The largest part of the brain and it organises most of our higher thought processes, such as conscious thought and memory
What part of the brain coordinates autonomic responses?
Medulla Oblongata
What neurones are involved in the knee jerk reflex?
The sensory neurones and motor neurones
What does Adenyl Cyclase do in the mechanism of adrenaline action?
Converts ATP to cyclic AMP (second messenger)
What is the accelerans nerve?
The Sympathetic Nerves
The cardiac muscle in the heart is myogenic. What does this mean?
It can initiate its own beat at regular intervals
