POM-V?
Prescription only Medicine - Veterinarian
These medications can only be prescribed by a registered veterinarian after assessing the animal under their care. Dispensing must be done by a vet or pharmacist.
POM-VPS?
Prescription only medicine - Veterinarian, Pharmacist, Suitably qualified person
These medications can be prescribed and supplied by a vet, pharmacist, or a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP). No clinical assessment of the animal is required.
NFA-VPS?
Non-Food animal - Veterinarian, Pharmacist, Suitably qualified person
Medications for non-food-producing animals that. can be prescribed and supplied by a vet, pharmacist, or SQP.
AVM-GSL?
Authorised Vet Medicine - General Sales List
Medications that can be sold without any restrictions and are available over the counter without a prescription.
SQP?
Suitably Qualified Person
A professional qualified to prescribe and supply specific veterinary medicines, usually NFA-VPS and POM-VPS medications.
Pharmacists?
Professionals qualified to dispense medications, including veterinary medicines, under the appropriate category (POM-V, POM-VPS, etc.)
Vets?
Veterinarians are qualified to assess animals, prescribe medications, and administer treatments, including restricted medicines like POM-V drugs.
