Parvovirus
Symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy
Transmission: contact with infected feces
Distemper
Symptoms: fever, loss of appetite, inflammation or discharge from the eyes or nose, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures
Transmission: bodily fluids, can be airborne
Coronavirus
Symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration
Transmission: contact with infected feces
Bordetella
Canine/ Kennel Cough
Symptoms: hacking and dry cough, nasal discharge, sneezing
Transmission: direct contact and airborne
Canine Influenza
Symptoms: cough, nasal discharge, fever, pneumonia
Transmission: close contact and airborne
Leptospirosis
Symptoms: jaundice, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy
Transmission: infected urine
Hepatitis
Symptoms: high fever, loss of appetite, depressed mood
Transmission: body fluids, especially urine
Lyme Disease
Symptoms: loss of appetite, lethargy, fever, swollen lymph nodes, lameness, overall “puffy” appearance
Transmission: tick bites
Internal Parasites
Organisms that feed on the host, living inside the host, and frequently requiring the host to complete their reproductive lifecycle, ex. roundworm, tapeworm, hookworm, coccidia, giardia, heartworm
External Parasite
Organisms that feed on the host, living on the outside the host, and frequently requiring the host to complete their reproductive lifecycle, ex. fleas, mites, sarcoptic mange, cheyletiella mange, demodectic mange, lice, ringworm
Mites
Naturally occurring on all living organisms, cause problems when grow out of balance or infect sebaceous glands
Demodectic Mange
Only form of mange that is not contagious
Rabies
Vaccination required in all 50 states.
Symptoms: erratic behavior, hyper-salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, aggression
Transmission: bites and salivary contact
