Animal form and function Flashcards
1
Q
What is a tissue?
A
A group of one/more cell types that carry out a specialized function.
2
Q
What are the 4 types of tissue in human body?
A
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscle
- Nervous
3
Q
Characteristics of epithelial tissue
A
- Covers internal/external free surfaces and organs
- Cells of the tissue are closely packed
- Have both apical and basal surfaces where apical remains fre and basal is attached to basement membrane
- No blood vessels present in the tissue
- Tissue gets nutrients and O from the underneath connective tissue.
4
Q
Functions of epithelia
A
- Protection
- Absorption
- Secretion
5
Q
Types of epithelia based on,
a) No. of cell layers
b) shape of cells
A
a) simple, compound
b) simple squamous, simple cuboidal, simple columnar, pseudostratified columnar
stratified squamous, transistional epithelium
6
Q
Give the location and functions of the types of epithelia
