Animal behaviour Flashcards
Animal behaviour
The study of how animals interact with other individuals of the same species or of different species and with their environment (responses to stimuli)
Habitutation
Reduction or disappearance of a previously-displayed behaviour when there is no consequence
Usually temporary and short-lived
Sensitisation
Development of a more frequent or stronger response to a repeated stimulus when that stimulus occurs after a negative reinforcement
Response may be lost if negative reinforcement stops
Classical conditioning
Parvos dogs
Instrumental or operant conditioning
Behavioural response is controlled by consequences (positive or negative reinforcement)
As a result of experience through trials and errors an animal learns to behave in a certain way
