1
Q
What is behaviour?
A
The most observable response that an animal gives to a stimuli
2
Q
What is a stimulus?
A
Events that cause an organism to perform an activity or start a reaction
3
Q
What is animal welfare?
A
The state of an individual as it attempts to cope with its environment
4
Q
What is a state?
A
Long duration of behaviour
5
Q
What is an event?
A
Short duration of behaviour
6
Q
What is a bout?
A
The grouping of events in a set pattern
7
Q
What is Ad lib sampling?
A
Write down and see what occurs, use for an ethogram
8
Q
What is One-zero sampling?
A
Yes I saw it, No I didn’t - good for a rare activity
9
Q
What is Instantaneous focal sampling?
A
- Records periodically, divided into samples
- Records whether a behaviour is occuring at a particular point
- Overall score expressed as a proportion of the observation time
10
Q
What is continuous focal sampling?
A
- Exact record of behaviours
- Necessary for true frequencies
- Keep timing of duration of behaviour
