Animal and Plant Cells Flashcards
What three organelles do plant cells have that animal cells don’t have?
All plants cells have a Cell wall (made of cellulose), some plant cells have Chloroplasts, or A permanent vacuole
What organelles do plant and animal cells both have?
Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Cell membrane, Mitochondria, Ribosomes
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls the acivities of the cell and contains genetic material
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Where most of the chemical reaction needed for life take place
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls the passage of substances such as glucose and mineral ions into the cell. And the passages of substances out of the cell
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Where aerobic respiration takes place, releasing energy for the cell
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Where protein synthesis takes place, making all proteins needed in the cell
What is the function of a cell wall (made of cellulose) ?
Strengthens the cell and gives it support
What is the function of chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts are green because they contain the green substance chlorophyll. They absorb light so the plant can make food by photosynthesis
What is the function of a permanent vacuole?
A space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap. This is important for keeping the cells rigid to support the plant
