Animal and Plant Cells Flashcards
What is a cell membrane?
Encloses the cell and acts like a screen to allow some materials to pass through it but not other.
What do Cell Membranes allow into their cells?
They allow nutrients and water in while keeping harmful molecules out.
What does Cytoplasm?
Gel-Like fluid made of mostly water that takes up most of the space inside the cell.
Where are organelles?
In cytoplasm.
What does the Nucleus?
Is the brain of the Cell
What is the Nucleus home to?
Chromosomes
What are Chromosomes made up of?
Are genetic structures that contain the information used to direct cell activity. Chromosomes are also made up of DNA
What are Vacuoles
Vacuoles are small fluid-filled structures that temporarily store different substances needed by the cell.
What and why is the Mitochondria considered the powerhouses of the cell?
They are called the powerhouses of the cell because they use oxygen to transform food into energy to help the cell carry out activities.
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum?
It serves as an internal delivery system for cell transporting materials the cell needs.
The materials that it is transporting is Ribosomes. What are Ribosomes?
Ribosomes are tiny organelles that make protein for the cell.
