Why was crime so low in Anglo Saxon communities
Because they lived in small communities usually hamlets so everyone knew each other
What is tithing
A group of people responsible for each other’s actions and responsible for handing each other to law enforcement
What is a Hue and cry
A victim or witness was expected to start the Hue and cry by shouting for others and anyone who heard was expected to help hunt the criminal
What are royal courts
Courts which dealt with the most serious crimes
What are shire courts
Courts that dealt with petty crime
What are oaths
Is a promise to god that you are innocent
Deciding guilt or innocence
The victims family would provide evidence of the suspects guilt for the court and if the jury could not decide they would be handed over to the church so god could decide
