- pain may be substernal crushing or compressing
*may radiate to arm, jaw or back
*lasts 3-5 minutes
*after exertion, emotional excitement or exposure to cold
*can develop when at rest
*women: atypical symptoms of pain (indigestion, back
pain, less severe substernal pain

*ECG (electrocardiogram) shows ST segment depression and T-wave inversion during anginal pain

- percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty or
* coronary artery stent placement

A
- assess for chest pain/characteristics of pain
- admin meds as perscribed
- hold nitrates/systolic under 90/contact dr.
- hold beta adrenergic blockers under 60/contact dr
- obtain 12 lead ECG during acute attack
