anger management programmes:

A
  • a cognitive behavioural therapy which helps someone to control anger outbursts
  • developed by Novaco in 1975
  • based on the assumption that anger is a primary cause of violent criminal acts
  • once offenders learn to control their anger, bad behaviour in prison will decrease
  • this ability to control aggressive behaviour will also impact on recidivism rates and reduce the chance of criminal reoffencinding
